What a wonderful feeling
For little kids when they are told
They will see their cousins soon
They act as though they have struck gold

Off children roam for the day
Doing “nothing” together
All connected as they play
Through some invisible tether

Giggle fests often ensue
As the kid group becomes one
Parents don't care to get the joke
So long as they are having fun

Sitting side-by-side to eat
At the rambunctious kid’s table
Racing through their plated meals
To play again once they are able

A few tears, a bit of fighting
The odd argument takes place
Chances are that is all due
To shared comfort within the space

It's funny that as adults
Those familiar feelings exist
Since hanging out with cousins
Is fun one simply can't resist

They remind us of our roots
Where we reserve a sacred spot
On a quirky, unique team
Each member built into the plot

Our cousins have seen our flaws
But all the best parts of us too
Though busy lives may separate
Not even time can shake the crew

It is blood that connects cousins
Perhaps that's why the bond's so strong
They’re the first friendships made in life
And first team to which we belong
