kids are always sick

It seems that when the newborn phase
Comes to an end, mama has had
More than her share of sleepless nights
She's pleased to leave behind this fad

Perhaps mom returned to work
After some time off with her babe
But after just a few short weeks
A bug hits Suzie like a wave

The awkward conversation comes
Earlier than mama figured
A request to work from home for now
Leaves her boss’ face disfigured

She knows what they are thinking:
Here we go with the requests!
Her anxiety increases
And her new stressors she digests

She expected to be nervous
About her modern-day routine
And hoping that her baby
Would adapt to their new scene

Little does mom realize
Illness is now part of her life
Emergency contact # 1
Sure ain’t the husband’s, it’s the wife’s

The two head to the clinic
Where yucky germs surround the pair
Some days they leave with meds
Other times, advice on care

Chicken noodle soup and baths
Will help to loosen up the phlegm
Antibiotics, fever meds
Electrolytes, and lots of them

Snuggles, back rubs, tons of hugs
For a flushed kiddo who looks drowsy
Since vomiting and tummy pains
Leave a child feeling lousy

They’re not themselves when they’re unwell
Which means mama becomes nervous
Ponders a midnight ER trip
The whole time, she’s at their service

Several days into the sickness
The child starts to come around
Mom is pleased, she disinfects
Gets her life back, things are sound

She’s glad the pair will get some sleep
Then hears a cough, sees dribbling
Those germs that mama thought were gone
Now belong to Suzie’s sibling
