kindergarten

It seems there are few moments
In our children’s lives
When they must take a leap of faith
And grow up right before our eyes

First day of Kindergarten
Is no doubt one of those days
The little one is nervous
And may plead for mom to stay

Her heart will ache a little
Wants to hold on, but she accepts
That change is required for growth
This time mom must not intercept

The life lessons learned in Kindy
Remain well into old age:
Share, don’t hit, apologize
Play, dance, paint, and sing onstage

Be brave and raise your hand
Don’t tease others, always be kind
If a pal looks sad or lonely
Be the friend they wish to find

Wash your hands before you eat
Remember, cheaters never prosper
Link arms with friends, and look both ways
These insights folks forever foster

Sometimes learning isn’t easy
Sometimes it feels too hard to do
But thinking some and playing some
Will build the best version of you

The apple of a mother’s eye
Tended to in her heart’s garden
Will continue to grow and ripen
In sensational Kindergarten!
