school's out for the summer
Every year around late spring
Moms and teachers get the itch
Both are over the routine
Backpacks ready to be ditched
The final days of school arrive
This means summer's here to stay
And this also means that mama’s need
New plans to fill up her kids days
Summer has mama in charge
Of finding things for them to do
And kids are more than happy
If a tablet is their only view
And when they are not binging the tube
They are binge-eating all the snacks
The pantry shelves, once flourishing
Go under attack
“I'm so hungry!”, “I'm so bored!”
Declarations on repeat
About a week into summer
Mama starts to feel the heat
A special day is planned
One they all look forward to
Water, sunscreen, swimsuits are packed
Sweet treats, hats, and spare clothes too
Adventure awaits the little team
Who barely sleeps the night before
Except for mom, she knows she’ll need
All of the rest before this chore
The day goes off without a hitch
One day down, fifty to go
It’s unfortunate that day trips
Cost a family loads of dough
At some point, comes up for air
And mom, considering a revamp,
Has herself an epiphany
That’s it! I’ll send them to day camp!
