‘90s moms
Raising kids in the '90s
Was different than it is today
It was a simpler time, perhaps
Since life has changed in major ways
PCs were all new to the scene
The supreme cellphone did not rule
Now, we’re glued to gadgets
Resembling robots like we're fools
’90s moms did not worry
About the angle of selfies
They went about their business
A drip of Bailey’s in their tea
It seems they did not know or care
What other mamas were up to
Breastfed babes or formula
No one debated these two views
Their eyebrows remained untouched
Lips did not pucker like a duck
Jazzercised their way through life
No spare time for nips and tucks
Screen time was a non-issue
Because Saturday morning cartoons
Were watched on a device
That could not leave the living room
No extravagant events
For graduations or birthdays
Loved ones would simply gather
And all the kids went off to play
Both Sega and Nintendo
Were gadgets ‘90s kids played with
Haircuts in the shape of bowls
Not quite as bad as the mullet
’90s moms watched kids climb trees
From any window in the house
And to complain about boredom
Got kids kicked outside like a mouse
Trisha, Billy, Matthew, Craig
Neighbourhood kids always around
Halloween costume choices:
Dracula, pumpkin, witch, or clown
A Poptart or Fruit Roll-Up
Were often tossed into a lunch
Grams of sugar, uncounted
Now, it's organic quinoa crunch
When the baby had a cold
Web MD isn't who they asked
Rather than impending doom
Mom went to Grandma for her flask
Half a teaspoon of Gram's brandy
Mixed with honey and some snuggles
Helped ‘90s moms through long nights
Because they, too, sure felt the struggles
Today, there’s stranger danger
We fear our very own front yard
Can’t let our kids out of our sight
Futile bubble wrap on guard
2020 moms obsess
Over everything, big and small
When all we need to do is
Drop our phones and toss a ball
All that children want or need
Is love, attention, and support
Adults could offer the world when
They just want help building a fort
Less comparing is the key
To move us to a better place
Keep the care, drop the worry
Raising small Kings and Queens with grace
If there is anything I’ve learned
From ‘90s moms, I think it’d be
Embrace all the sweet moments
Because one day, they'll be fifteen
