matriarch

Matriarch; remarkable
Imagine, where would we all be
Without our elder women
It’s not a world I’d like to see

Although not often recognized
Amid families across the land
Matriarchs act as the glue
And often don't ask for a hand

Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas
The more the merrier says she
Who is typically last to eat
And even cleans up the turkey

They dish out the very best
Kindness, advice, and warmest hugs
The powers of a Matriarch
Stronger than any drug

A tenderness and wisdom
Care and compassion that's unmatched
Encourages her family
Watches the tribe evolve and hatch

Her life lessons, often quiet
Embedded in our everyday
The things we take for granted
And yet, for us they pave the way

They understand what matters
It’s surely not money or fame
And if their blood can't bear the brunt
They're tough enough to take the blame

Generations of warmth is passed
From mothers to daughters
A knowing that is sacred
And is as essential as water

Members often overlook
The influence of a Matriarch
That is, until we reflect upon
Their profound imprint in our hearts
