mini me

To see yourself in someone else
Is quite a thing to see
Tiny humans with your own traits
A mommy or daddy’s Mini Me

Overhearing your little one
Say something noble you might say
With pride, they speak their piece
Which may just take your breath away

To witness your little one
Do something righteous you might do
Think to yourself, I done good
As you sit back and watch the view

But no parent is prepared
For the first time it registers
That the tot also picked up
Some bad habits like a bur

Unsuspectingly, they hook
Onto a child with sharp teeth
Parents’ hearts drop knowing that
Their imperfections have run deep

Are you one who’s always late?
Wait ‘til the day you’re at the door
Annoyed with a little slowpoke
As the universe evens the score

Nail-biting may be common
But never something one’s fond of
So noticing them gnawing
May prompt you to pass a glove

Perhaps you are a nitpicker
Wanna guess who else is then?
If Jack or Jill don’t criticize
Odds are it passed down to little Ben

Do you shut down when you’re upset?
Refuse to communicate your thoughts?
The silent treatment will become
Your foe in this twisted plot

To see yourself in someone else
Is a thing to perceive for sure
A tiny human with your traits
Is quite a spectacle to endure
