Duck This!

A poetry workshop for moms who care, moms who swear, and moms who have messy hair!

Have you had a crazy year? Would you like to be part of a cozy, fun space to get it all out?

Introducing Duck This! — a workshop that will leave you feeling seen, heard, and connected to your creative power!

Hi, I’m Jill Moysiuk, host of the Duck This! workshop series.

Before I tell you about this totally awesome thing I created, I am going to be honest: I am not a professional writer. I’m a mom and former HR professional who was expecting to return to work following my second maternity leave…but instead I got fired.

It sucked. When I was ready to put my big girl pants back on I ended up staying home in my pajama pants. And despite the identity crisis that followed, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the out I’d been waiting for.

So I did what any rational and responsible parent would do in this situation: I picked up a pen and I started writing poetry. Now to be clear, up until that point, I did not think that I had a creative bone in my body. But…

I kept writing.

And writing.

And writing.

Because it felt good. Because I needed a way to express all of the emotions I was feeling. And because it made me feel less crazy, less alone, and more like myself. Or at least more like the person I wanted to be.

In the Duck This! workshop series, I’m going to show you how to express yourself in ways you didn’t think were possible so that you can find some clarity in the chaos — and have fun while doing it!

Think of Duck This! as self-care without adding more to your to-do list. It’s an opportunity to spend a bit of your precious free time getting in touch with the parts of yourself that are screaming to get out. (See picture.)

I get it. Life’s hard. Especially for moms. We put ourselves last, we’re short on time, and we can feel creatively flat. But we go through the motions because we assume that’s just #momlife. Am I right?

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

If you carve out some time and energy for yourself, I promise that you will come away from this workshop series feeling energized, creatively nourished, and like you’re not alone in wanting to laugh, cry, and scream — sometimes all at the same time!

Picture this: next time you notice that your teen smells and you want to throw up, or your little one actually throws up, you giggle because the perfect line for a poem just popped in your head!

Imagine being able to see your world through fresh eyes. Imagine being able to find the right words for something magical you’re witnessing, like the bond between your daughter and your dog or the way the sunlight reflects off your favourite houseplant at the same time each day.

There is meaning and magic everywhere, you just have to look for it! Of course, it helps to discover and express yourself in a way that’s straightforward, easy, and fun!
