cleaning out their closet

Of the many chores that moms can’t stand
Going through clothes may take the cake
Every six months or so, it’s time
To give kid's closets a good rake

This usually occurs when mom
Notices bare ankles or bellies
Kids grow fast and nothing fits
Not even socks or spring wellies

The reason that this household task
Is at the top of the lame list
Is that it takes an afternoon
To complete the closet blitz

Mom puts aside that block of time
To make big heaps in their bedrooms
Of garments piled everywhere
Including Halloween costumes

Holds up each piece of clothing
Sadly, some things were worn just once
And if mom paid full price for those
She will feel like a total dunce

Mom certainly feels better though
Knowing the clothes are heading to
A younger bro or sissy
Or a friend’s smaller tot or two

Then a new wardrobe is in order
After the drawers are skimmed and bare
But these days, the cost of living
Makes kid clothes shopping seem unfair

Mom peruses deals for outfits
Sometimes online, sometimes in-store
But in her stretched-out lounge wear pants
Notices she needs a spree much more
