Effort minimal, outcome vast
And like eating well and exercise
Its euphoric feeling often lasts
 
Hugging children is pivotal
It wraps kids up and reminds them
That they are not alone to face
Life's hardships sure to stem
 
Performing poorly on a test
Or getting last place in a sport
Is sure to make a child feel
That they have fallen short
 
But a big hug can change that
Restoring faith in one's well-being
To pull them in for a tight squeeze
Feels rock-solid and also freeing
 
When other kids are mean at school
Or a beloved pet passes away
A hug may be the only thing
To keep those blue feelings at bay
 
Of course, though, there are the good times
When kids have happy news to share
The first thought that comes to mind is
Hugging it out with those who care
 
Embrace the embrace for children
Give kids the comfort they deserve
Whether to celebrate good times
Or aid when life throws them a curve
 
The funny thing about a hug
Especially when shared with tots
Is that it brings them comfort, and
For mama, too, it hits the spot
