screen time

Whether we love them or we hate them
Devices are central in our lives
When our phones are not within arms reach
We feel as though we are deprived

As adults we understand
How detrimental this can be
But children are not able
To comprehend like you and me

In the morning before school
They may forget they need to eat
Instead, consuming Youtube Shorts
While toast and jam take a back seat

“Let’s go guys, off your device!”
Mom starts by sounding nice
But the tone changes to ‘mean mom’
When she has asked them more than thrice

After school, it's the same sitch
Kids gravitate toward electronics
While mama rinses Tupperware
They ain’t workin’ on their phonics

Before bed, too, tots do their best
To cram in some more screen time
The problem is that when forced off
Their demeanor changes on a dime

Once loving and good-hearted
Kids turn into little devils
Their eyes bug out; they look possessed
And tempers reach another level

This is when they throw a fit
And tantrum (no matter their age)
Life’s unfair or so it seems
‘Cause withdrawn tablets equal rage

’Pick your battles’ is what they say
But who the duck are they again?
If I had to guess their line of work
I’d say they are comedians!
